'Tis the season to be merry right, well, why not married?
Mark had the right idea when he surprised Melissa with a wedding. Just over 3 months ago Mark gave me a call from his US address and I was completely on board for this quick but sure to be fabulous event. The date was picked, the church booked, I was next...
(Then he told the bride) Yes, in that order.
Soon after that I spoke with the couple, long distance, to begin planning a December 23 wedding here in Thunder Bay, Mark's home town. It didn't take long to get started and with some ideas up my sleeve and a great crew of vendors we were on our way. Now just imagine planning your wedding having never met your wedding planner or any vendors except by my recommendation. Brave but obviously smart people!
Tomorrow is the true test. It's the wedding day!
Now I have a bit more to do tonight before I can get a good nights sleep. I'm sure the bride and groom will sleep well because it's all taken care of and the weather forcast is telling us sunny and warm for late December. What could be better?!
All the best to you and your families this beautiful holiday season.

Your Favourite Photo?
Dear Readers,
I have taken so many photos at my clients weddings that I cannot seem to pick my favourite. I would like your help in selecting one to use in future promotions. When selecting it please tell me why you like it. Perhaps is the colour combination, lighting, type of flower...anything that grabs your attention.
Can't wait to see what your fav photo is!

YI at Wedding Wishes
I hope you stopped by to see me at today's Chamber of Commerce Wedding Wishes Formal Affair.
Remember me?
Congratulations couples and enjoy being engaged!
Have a great week.
Bethanie
Remember me?
It was a great day to celebrate weddings especially yours!! Now you have mounds of brochures, flyers and business cards to wade through and it may seem a lot to cover, and yup, you're right.
Now that is where I come in. Who better to help make sense of it all than your Thunder Bay wedding planner? With more weddings under my belt than fingers and toes to count on you could say I have seen a few things. With so much inspiration and questions to ask I am there to help my clients find the answers.
To start, take everything you collected from the wedding show, magazines, websites and start sorting throught it all. Slowly and surely you will find a theme and style that keeps showing up.
With that in mind and with the weddings I have been fortunate to be a part of I thought it would be fun to make the first YI (You're Invited) magazine. I hope you grabbed a copy because they are all gone, but since it was a blast to put together and I have so much more to share with you I hope to do another issue.
Until then stay tuned right here! I'll be posting links, photos, stories and anything that I think you would love.
Congratulations couples and enjoy being engaged!
Have a great week.

YI is Getting Married: Engagement Photos
A few weeks ago Mr. M and I were thrilled to the bone. um, make that chilled to the bone but equally thrilled to do our engagement photos with Alvis at Bliss Pictures.
I'm hoping the cool windy weather will be the complete opposite during our destination wedding day but how can I complain when I had Mr. M to snuggle up to during our session. We hit the downtown streets of PA and then found our way out to White Water area. It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing and Mr. M made it look so easy, I mean just look at him, such a natural. Alvis was a lot of fun and took his time to capture these romantic and touching photos. I can't wait to see what our wedding photos will be like. Yes, we are bringing Alvis and his spectacular wife Sam to our destination wedding.
Now since this is the first time I mentioned we are having a destination wedding, wouldn't you like to know where we are going and when? Patience my friends, the details are coming together and I am looking forward to sharing them with you.

Wedding Wishes Formal Affair 2010
Can you believe November is almost here! Time flies when your planning weddings.
If you're a bride than this is good news because it means the Wedding Wishes Formal Affair will be here soon. It's always a great event with endless inspiration at every turn.
Be prepared!
-Ususally around 300 brides attend this event and when everyone brings 2-5 people with them it can get crowded and very warm. Dress accordingly and bring water in a reusable bottle.
-I think the fashion shows are great but it's also a good time to visit vendors without a crowd of people around.
-You may be filling out a lot of ballots for prizes so consider bringing return address labels.
-Print out the floor plan and list of vendors ahead of time so you can target what you are looking for but don't miss the great ones inbetween as well.
-There isn't a lot of time to spend at each booth so prepare any questions that are important to you?
-Consider bringing no more than 2 people with you. It is easy to get separated and distracted when it should be all about you. Collect the information and then go over it with your wedding party.
-Pay attention to each vendor. Although you may not want their services there may be something inspiring about them. I've gotten ideas from their colour schemes, music being played, poses in photos, fonts...
Join YI and many other Thunder Bay wedding vendors on Sunday, November 7 at the Valhalla Inn.
Visit Wedding Wishes for more information.
I'll be in the Scandia Room, come by and say hello!

YI is Getting Married: The Proposal
It's been over 2 months and I still can't believe it! I'm getting married.
So how did it all happen?
Well it turns out tradition isn't the standard in this household.
Boy meets girl
Boy move in
Boy struggles under the influence of a live-in wedding planner
Girl tries really hard to step back and let the natural progress of a relationship take place
Girl fails to keep quiet and Boy thinks he made the decision to have an early 2011 wedding
Boy and Girl announce it to friends and family
Boy and Girl are not engaged, yet....
Hard enough that I plan weddings every day but when the idea comes around that it might actually be my turn, yikes. Sorry Mr. Mighty you didn't run fast enough.
So the date was selected, the location booked, save the dates sent (see future posts) yet something was missing, oh yeah we weren't engaged.
Set the scene:
Well it's 8 months before the wedding so it's a good idea to start dress shopping. It can take up to 6 months when you order a dress.
We're at home and just finished watching the movie Dear John, the credits were running and music playing in the background. When talking about our Saturday plans I shared that I was feeling kinda weird about dress shopping because I don't like being the centre of attention but Mr. Mighty thought it was because I wasn't engaged.
bah! what?! Oh god I'm so pushy, what am I thinking? I burst out in emotion from under a blanket completely embarrassed for being a pushy wedding planner and pretty much forcing Mr. Mighty to propose. Not the case of course but I had a moment of panic.
He took me to our room so I could relax and to help me calm down. In moments I found myself in a blur of 'will you marry me?' I could only throw myself in his direction and say....
What?
again 'will you marry me?' Perfection! I've always wanted a sound track to my life and I actually had a beautiful love song playing in the background.

Of course! I ordered the invitations that morning.

Something Old is Something New Again
Your grandmother's pearls are timeless but there has never been a better time to start your own collection.
Faux or real you will find pearls have made a huge comeback and certainly in our little world of weddings.
Take a look at a few stunning designs I found on Etsy. Don't forget to visit a local antique store or even ask your grandmother for her strand, it may be just what you are looking for. From your rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, wedding and more make a statement and say 'Pearls are a Girls Best Friend'. I'll never turn down a diamond but I can't wait to change it up a bit.
Use these ideas as inspiration or visit their shops for more. There was over 5000 pages of pearl items on Etsy.
Reminder: I do not represent these companies nor have I ordered from them. I enjoy their work and hope you do to.
Much love,
Bethanie

YI Blog New Look (again)
Since Blogger came out with some new features and I finally had some time to explore and I was able to come up with this. A bit of editing to do with photos and lots of new posts to add but it will all be worth it.
YI has been having a wonderful summer of weddings and I cannot wait to share photos with you.
But it's not over yet!
Come back soon

What is missing here?
Lovely, the background on my blog is missing, perhaps on vacation. A week early since I'm taking next week off.
What is a blogger with limited tech skills and a million other projects and fun stuff to write about supposed to do to before someone visits?
Well, if there is a background when you read this it's becuase I figured it out and I'm not as bad as I think I am at this blog stuff.
I have a great diy project coming up next week. I've started some home made clothesline pennants (right word?) for a little party and will have some other fun photos to take.
What will this weeks Etsy find be? I'm sure if I type in personalized stationery I will find a mass of fantastic ideas but some creative masters.
Happy Monday everyone!

Narci and Jim-One week until the wedding
In one short week Narci and Jim will be married!
Since I often make this blog all about me, I must say I will be sad when it's all over. No more 3 hour binge meetings, sorting through everything purple that ever existed and of course those yummy snacks at the kitchen table.
We do have one more week to get through and it will be a busy one! With a theme 'It's About Time' you can only imagine what we actually need more of right now.
Narci has worked so hard to make this day special and I want the best for them.
Narci: You will be a stunning bride and don't worry about photographing your good side because I haven't met one yet that I do not love, inside and out! You are a very special and deserving person.
Jim: You gave a good effort trying to keep the wedding on budget, thumbs up! You've made some nice touches for the wedding that everyone will appreciate and that is very thoughtful.
All right, enough of this. I've got work to do.
I'll have photos soon!
Much love,
Bethanie

For the Men-Etsy Finds
It escapes me occasionally that yes, there is another important person to include in the wedding plans.
The Groom!
Not that I really forget about them; I just realize that I have never once needed to call a groom for his decision on flowers, deco, cake etc.
Today I want to recongize the men, who have tirelessly endured wedding planning meetings and now may understand the difference between emerald and forest greens.
I went to Etsy to find something for the men. It may not be a ticket out of another florist visit but it's something for them on the wedding day.
Favourite movie, video game, destination. Thay may have a cuff link just for you.
Add a custom message to your groomens ties
'The Dude' Enough said
I'm having a lot of fun finding stuff for the guys so I will have to spread it over several blogs. Too many great finds to share at once.
There is love for the guys when planning a wedding so don't miss out.
Ladies don't foget to do something special for the guys and that doesn't just mean letting his best man give what is sure to be memorable and possibly historical speech.
Cheers groomy!

YI is Engaged!
Can you believe it! YI (Bethanie) is getting married to the best man I know.
I may embarrass him with all of the stories and my drama so we'll call him Mr. Mighty.
After years of planning weddings and helping couples to enjoy their day it is my turn. NOW WHAT?!
How do I, a wedding planner plan my own wedding?
What are people going to expect?
How do I win the lottery ASAP?
What are my colours going to be?
Most importantly, what shoes am I going to wear? Argh!
So what does this mean for you, dear reader?
Here is the deal, so I do not have to go through this alone, although I have many fab friends, I am going to share my trials, tribulations and super amazing wedding ideas with you.
Reader: Wow YI thanks
YI: Do I sense some sarcasm?
Trust me it will be a lot of fun. I'll post my shopping deals, photos of my projects and the odd story of how we got here and where we're going.
Stay tuned; you want to hear about how Mr. Mighty proposed don't you. Never thought YI could be surprised, go figure.
Much love,
Bethanie

Welcome to YI - Carlie and Colin
I couldn't be happier to have this delightful couple a part of the YI family.
Carlie and Colin will be married on July 10, 2010. What is sure to be a beautiful ceremony on the family's property will be made even better when Carlie and Colin's eyes meet for the first time as she takes a memorable walk down the aisle.
Sure to steal some of the limelight will be Emma, who I am eager to meet. The third member of this family can expect nothing less than a grand entrance at the hands of the ring bearer who will also be pulling her wagon. At the alter Emma will be witness to her parents uniting in marriage, a happily ever after that is only just the beginning.
Carlie and Colin have done such a great job in planning their wedding so far that I can only ask that they take comfort in knowing that I will do my best to bring all of their plans together to make their wedding day memorable, happy and uniquely their own.
Cheers to this wonderful couple, their daughter and the union of their families.
Always and truly,
Bethanie

Where's YI?
It's been a pretty big year and relocating my YI (You're Invited) office to my first ever house (no more renting) with Mr. Mighty will finally give me the space I greatly need to spread out and plant my wedding roots. Decorating will take a back seat to wedding season but I hope to have current and future clients over to join me at Casa de Brides.
I might have to hold a contest to name my office once I have some photos. It took me weeks to name my cat and came up with Spazz, so I'm going to need a little help. (she earned it each and every blissful day)
Right when we move in it will be affectionately known as Casa de Blank Walls. Picking colours for an office can be just as exciting and challenging as your wedding colours.
I'd love to hear what your wedding colour combinations are!
Big announcement coming soon! Well I think it's big anyways. Hope you enjoy the posts to follow.

A Piece of Cake
It wasn't a piece of cake at first but after a few misses we finally found our baker! And we should have guessed from Stacey's business name A Piece of Cake that it would be.
When cake is important to you you have to know what you like and what is available to you.
Do you want fondant icing? Smooth finish, heavy marshmallow texture on designer cakes like those on tv's Ace of Cakes, The Cake Boss, the Ultimate Cake Challange.
Do you like buttercream icing? A light flavour, usually in pale colours and you can see very rough or slight texture from icing tools.
Flavours: Does your potential baker have a variety to choose from including yummy fillings?
Tastings: It's not always like in the movies (or big cities) where you go to bakeries and sample a number of flavours until you find the perfect combination. We are lucky to have a few that I know of who provide a free tasting but do not be surprised if you are expected to buy a small cake(s) to try it out.
With so many other details to ask your baker...
Cost per piece?
Delivery costs?
Embellishments to the cake?
Do they provide a cake stand? and do you like it?
How much cake to order for your guests?
...it can be fun but a decision that should not be left to the last minute.
After 3 unsuccessful attempts at trying cakes, including one that was given away to another customer, we have found my clients wedding cake baker!
We have a design in mind, a cake topper to top all heirlooms and a marble cake with buttercream icing tasting approved! Now we just have to wait until the wedding day to see the final product. Too long!
Like I always say, watch for more details!
Until then click on the link above to find out who this baker is. Be sure to eat something before you do because I crave cake every time I see her artisitcs work which look too nice to cut into. It must be those adorable burger cupcakes.

Snow is melting, the sun is shining, can spring be on it's way so soon. Knock on wood!
I love this one from her facebook page.

Welcome Nicole and Ryan
On October 10, 2010 (10/10/10) I will be with Nicole and Ryan as they celebrate their wedding day. I am so excited to be a part of this day with such a unique and rare date. It's not that often you can get a fun date on a weekend!
They currently live out west and have been trying to get started on planning on short visits home. I had the pleasure of meeting them over the holidays and they thought my services would be the key in making this event happen.
I'm looking forward to all of our wedding design and timeline meetings, although via email or phone we'll plan a special day. Nicole and Ryan have some great ideas and I'd like to add my personal touch to them as well.
I love my job!

The Happy Yappy Scrapper
An absolute must to check out, The Happy Yappy Scrapper
I had no idea my friend Jennifer had so much talent. Well of course I did but really haven't seen some of her most recent work and it far exceeds my imagination. This girl is a scrapbooking machine!
I'm going to have her help me with a project so I'll post the results. What ever I was thinking I could accomplish doesn't compare to what she can do. Then again I have no skills or patience for such detail with crafts which is why I recommend experts to my clients.
Enjoy!

Great New Blog Find
Have you been to Design Sponge yet? Just when you think you've seen it all you come across a great find.
See something you'd like to try? Be creative and find a way to make it personal.
Check out this great project I found under DIY on Design Sponge. Maybe socks aren't your thing but there are other ways to dress up your dollar store or yard sale find. Think ribbon, a scarf, tinfoil, paper mache, winter hat... The sky is the limit.

Good Bye to a Friend
It's been way too long! I miss my blog but I needed some time alone, and for all of you out there who love their furry family members (the animal variety not dad who needs a back wax) you'll understand how hard it is to say good bye.
I won't share the details but I lost my little girl Spazz last month. (Yes, Spazz is my cat's name and she earned it every day of her life). I had a wonderful nine and half years with her and the past 3 weeks have been an emotional culmination of all our memories. A lot happen over those years and I will keep each moment close to my heart.
Pet or hairy dad, don't forget to say I love you every chance you get.
Bye, baby girl, I love you!

Happy New Year!
It's January 9 and it's off to a good start. How about yourself? Any resolutions? I have renewed my annual resolution to get into shape, why not, it's a good a time as any to start fresh. In fact I renew my get fit resolution almost weekly. Now that is dedication.
If you haven't planned on having a resolution I offer you this.
Resolve to embrace each day and celebrate why you are getting married. Don't get lost in all of the details and forget how you got here. Seating plans, colour swatches, payments, dress fittings, song selections... ok there is a lot to do (all of which I love) but right this minute flash back to your first date, maybe the first time you told each other I Love You! Your firsts are some of the best memories of your life. What will your next first be?
My next first... a house. And we're looking forward to it. It's on hold for awhile but the memories we plan to make are keeping the anticipation fresh, for how much longer? I guess we'll see.
All the best to you and your firsts this year. Cheers to 2010!
